Plant Tours

Florence Plant Tour:

Tuesday, 30th January, 2007

The Florence plant is one of the largest and most advanced of GE’s Oil & Gas Manufacturing Centers. At this site, gas and steam turbines, and centrifugal and reciprocating compressors are built and tested. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour this facility and observe our innovative production facilities including:

  • Centrifugal compressor assembly line
  • Gas turbine assembly line
  • High-speed balancing bunker for large centrifugal compressor
    and turbine rotors
  • Gas turbine packaging pulsing line

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn how we have merged our Lean Manufacturing Process with GE’s Six Sigma total quality methodology. This unique integration of advanced processes has already resulted in innovations such as "one-piece" impellers for our centrifugal compressor product line that deliver enhanced reliability and lower maintenance requirements.

Massa Plant Tour:

Tuesday, 30th January, 2007

Our Massa plant, located 120 km (75 miles) south of Florence, packages turbo compressor units and includes extensive facilities for conducting full load string tests on large units. The Qatargas III String Test will be a highlight of this tour and a great example of our advanced testing capabilities.

Visitors will learn about our most recent innovations in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma quality methodologies, such as “Lean2” for test cycle time reduction and "Virtual Compressor" for reducing packaging cycle time.

The Massa plant also manufactures heavy wall reactors for the oil and gas industry and is a world leader in the application of specialty materials and advanced welding technology for the production of this equipment. A new pulsing line will be working using the most advanced welding equipment to improve our reactors capacity.
